Witness for Peace Solidarity Collective and Witness for Peace Southeast teamed up to host Colombian Indigenous activists, Maria Violet Medina Quiscue to the United States to discuss the impact of the U.S-funded armed conflict and corporate extractivism in Colombia and how it disproportionately hurts Indigenous peoples, particularly women and children, as well as their ancestral territories. Between November 2nd and November 14th, the speaking tour will travel to 5 US cities: Asheville (NC), Boone (NC), Durham (NC), Raleigh (NC) and Washington DC.

Maria Violet Medina Quiscue is the general coordinator for Committee of Indigenous Peoples Victims of the Armed Conflict in Bogota, a grassroots organization representing 16 Indigenous groups currently living in conditions of forced displacement in Bogota, Colombia. The committee works to protect the rights of Indigenous people affected by the Colombian armed conflict through the preservation of traditional education, healthcare, psycho-social support, and human rights advocacy at the national and international levels. Violet focuses on the areas of ethno-education, psychology, community-based healthcare, and the history of Indigenous struggle in the urban context.

Objectives of the tour:

​

• Deepen the internationalist struggle against U.S. militarism.

• Build and strengthen the bonds of friendship and mutual solidarity between the social movements of Colombia and the United States in order to build a common internationalist struggle.

• Defend the right to self-determination of the Indigenous Peoples of Colombia.

• Raise awareness about the reality of Indigenous Peoples in Colombia 

• Sensitize the people of Colombia about the great contradictions and struggles faced by the poor people from the United States, demonstrating a truth that is not seen in the mainstream media.
