The WFP Solidarity Collective is hiring for a full-time, remote position of Communications and Development Coordinator.

 

The Witness for Peace Solidarity Collective is a nonprofit organization working in partnership with grassroots organizations, Black, Indigenous and campesino communities, and social movements in Colombia, Cuba, and Honduras to support peace, justice, and sustainable economies in the Americas. We work to change U.S. policies that contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean. We seek a new member of the Solidarity Collective who can help develop and implement effective communication strategies through online platforms and social media with a focus on relationship building and growing the donor and support base of the Witness for Peace Solidarity Collective in the United States.

• Brief cover letter (1-2 pages) explaining your qualifications for this position and elaborating on your experience conducting similar responsibilities

• A portfolio of your work in communications in a non-profit setting (publications you created - written and visual, social media advocacy, coordination of campaigns, webinars you participated in, public speaking events, and similar)

Responsibilities:

 

Communications Lead

• As part of the Collective’s communications committee provide guidance in the implementation of an effective communications strategy across programs including email, social media, and website, producing compelling, timely content. 

• In collaboration with the Communications Committee, use social media, email, video, and other digital tools to develop online and offline organizing programs

• Execute digital campaign strategies to grow online membership and engagement of our online supporters in taking action.

• Help design Collective’s educational efforts through presentations, webinars, and other  publications 

•  Develop strategies aimed at targeting, building, and retaining membership segments based on issue, campaign, demographic, and other variables to deepen activism and engagement among members with specific interests

•  Track, analyze, and apply analytics and metrics to measure the effectiveness of tools and strategies

•  Maintain high quality and timely website presence; ensure ease of navigation, message consistency, relevance, and engagement opportunities for visitors.

• Work with coalition partners to organize virtual events and urgent actions

• Train and advise staff on digital communications strategy and social media best practices.

• Track technology trends and apply needed upgrades and innovations to ensure platforms and campaigns remain current

Development  Support  

• Support the development and implementation of flourishing and sustainable donor relations and fundraising strategies for the organization

• Help expand the donor and support base of the Solidarity Collective

• Contribute to delegation recruitment 

• Strengthen online fundraising, and increase Patreon membership. Develop monthly newsletters, reading lists and podcast episodes highlighting the work on the ground

 

Advocacy Support 

• Support in coordinating the campaign strategy and other advocacy efforts of the Colombia, Honduras, and Cuba programs in the U.S.

• Support the coordination of advocacy/speaking tours in the U.S. 

• Assist in integrating returning delegates into existing advocacy campaigns 

• Strengthen existing relationships and new relationship-building processes with churches, solidarity groups, activist circles, universities, former delegates, and individuals interested in solidarity work with Latin America

 

General responsibilities as a member of the Collective 

• Participate in the regular all-staff call

• Support internal Collective’s processes. Participate in the Collective’s decision-making processes and annual strategic planning meetings 

• Provide coordination feedback on the projects of committees and working groups as appropriate

 

Required Qualifications ​

• Bachelor’s degree (in human rights, peace studies, social sciences, or similar) or equivalent experience

• Prior knowledge and experience working with human rights and/or grass-roots organizations in Latin America.

• Solid understanding and/or  deep commitment to learning the human rights contexts of Colombia, Honduras, and Cuba and the impacts of U.S. interventions in these countries

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong online communication skills and computer literacy 

• Experience with coordinating human rights/nonviolent campaigns and other advocacy activities

• Experience with raising funds for an organization and  relationship-building with multiple stakeholders

• Coordination of the work of teams across different cultures

• Experience and/or interest in consensus decision-making and working in a non-hierarchical collective

• Commitment to the Solidarity Collective’s mission/vision and operating principles

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior knowledge and experience with global economics and US foreign policy, including economic and military policies, trade, and labor issues

• Spanish and English fluency

 

Compensation:

Benefits include a stipend ($1,800 USD + $150 USD health per month), and all work-related transportation costs.
